Is a Facelift Right for Me?
Are you beginning to notice that your facial skin is not as firm as it used to be? As we age, our skin naturally looses collagen and elastin, which can cause our skin to droop or become lax. If you are unhappy with the appearance of lax skin on your mid-face and jaw, you may be able to benefit from a facelift. Read on to learn more about this procedure and if it is right for your anti-aging goals.
What is a Facelift?
A facelift is surgical procedure designed to reduce sagging or folds in the cheeks and jawline. It may also be combined with a neck lift to address lax skin on the neck. During a facelift, your surgeon will pull back loose skin and alter tissues to create a more youthful facial contour. At JB Cosmetics & Facial Surgery, Dr. Bonaparte uses a technique called a SMAS facelift, which involves lifting the underlying tissues that are the cause of common signs of facial aging.
However, it is important to remember that a facelift will not completely change your facial appearance, nor will it stop the aging process. The main goal of this procedure is to maintain your natural beauty, while achieving a younger-looking you.
Is a Facelift Right for Me?
If you are bothered by lax skin on your face and jawline you may be able to benefit from a facelift procedure. Ideal candidates will be healthy individuals who do not have any medical conditions that may hinder healing. It is also important to have a positive attitude toward your procedure with realistic expectations. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is to schedule a consultation appointment at our Ottawa, Ontario office.
What Can I Expect Following a Facelift?
Because a facelift is an invasive surgical procedure, there will be some downtime necessary to allow you to heal. Following your procedure, you will have a bandage placed around your neck and face, which will help to reduce swelling. Dr. Bonaparte will provide you with specific instructions on how to best care for your surgical site during recovery, and will advise you on when you can return to regular activities and exercise. As swelling and bruising go down, you will slowly begin to notice visible improvements. It is important that you remember to protect your face from the sun during recovery, as your skin will be sensitive and vulnerable to sunburn.
