There are numerous conditions that can result in changes in the color and texture of your skin. As we age, our skin often develops small brown spots. Long term sun damage can also cause people to develop brown spots and pigmentation changes on areas of their face. Some people have red discoloration as a result of medical conditions like Rosacea. Photofacial IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is a safe and very effective way to reduce these problems. In fact, IPL is one of the most popular treatments for facial rejuvenation. Although very effective when used on its own, when combined with other treatments such as skin tightening procedures, laser treatments, Botox or surgical procedures, IPL can often result in a very dramatic change results.
How Does IPL Work?
IPL uses pulses of very bright light which is absorbed by the two colors in your skin, red and brown. As the red and brown pigment in your skin absorbs the light, the pigment heats up and is broken apart. Your body can then remove this pigment and it results in a more even complexion. IPL is safe for most skin types and all but the darkest of skin colors.
What can I Expect with a Treatment?
After consultation with Dr James P. Bonaparte, a skilled esthetician will treat your skin. You may feel quick pulses of warmth on the skin during the treatment. After the treatment your skin may look red for a few hours but this typically fades within 30 minutes to 2 hours. People often require 3 to 6 treatments for best results.
