Botox Recovery: What to Expect
Botox is a non-invasive method that many people use to get a smoother, fuller, and younger-looking face. It is FDA-approved and has proved to be effective and safe if you get it injected by a licensed provider like Dr James P. Bonaparte, MD.
Am I A Good Candidate For Botox?
Botox works by preventing muscles under the skin from contracting. Some of the most common issues you can treat using Botox include crow’s feet, glabella lines, forehead lines, frown lines, and smile lines.
While Botox will help you eliminate the lines and wrinkles that come from facial expressions and muscle movements, it might not be effective for severe lines and wrinkles that come from aging, sun damage, and loss of facial volume.
What To Expect From Botox Injections
Botox is one of the easiest and fastest cosmetic procedures you can get. You do not need any special preparation before the procedure, and it takes 15-30 minutes, depending on how many injections you are getting.
You can go home immediately after the procedure, and you don’t need to make special transport or aftercare preparations. While experts recommend that you recieve continued Botox injections over time to maintain your results, you can see significant results after your first injection appointment.
What To Expect Post-Botox
After Botox, you may expereince some minor side effects including minor tingling, numbness, redness, bruising, and swelling around the site of injection. These side effects are temporary and last only a few hours.
Your doctor will advise you on some of the precautions you should take to avoid any complications like skin irritation and bruising. Some of those precautions include:
- Do not massage, scratch, or rub the injection sites to prevent the Botox from migrating to other areas.
- Avoid vigorous activities within 24 hours of getting the injection.
- Avoid bending or laying down several hours after the injections.
- Avoid smoking for at least two days after the injections.
- Do not take blood thinners for two days after the procedure.
Botox results appear quickly because muscle relaxation takes a short time. You can start seeing results after a few days, but it depends on the severity of the issues you want to treat. For most patients, it takes around two or three weeks to see the full results of the Botox. At that point, there is no swelling, redness, or bruising on the face. After three or four months, you will notice the effects of Botox are starting to fade, and you might notice the reappearance of fine lines. This is the best time to recieve another Botox injection.
